Wendy Paton is an award-winning American photographer best known for her candid black-and-white night portraits. In 1981, Paton began shooting photographs while in the throes of a ground-breaking career in horse racing. After graduating from the International Center of Photography in New York, Paton first went on to study under noted photographers Michael Kenna and Lucien Clergue, and later under master printer Chuck Kelton, who would become Paton’s longtime mentor and collaborator.
Her images have appeared in the media worldwide, including CNN World News, Prime Time Russia Today, Schwarzweiss Magazine, Le Journal de la Photographie, and The Photo Review, among others.
In 2009, she was awarded the CENTER Editor’s Choice Award (Santa Fe, NM). In 2012, a retrospective of her series of nocturnal portraits titled “Visages de Nuit” was exhibited at The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography in Moscow. Paton’s debut solo American museum show opened in the fall of 2014 at the James A. Michener Art Museum.
